I recently had a furnace come in- complaint was that nothing happened- no fan, no heat.. nothing. Whenever I have a furnace problem, the first step I take is to go to the thermostat.
Please read ALL of these instructions carefully before beginning installation. Save them for future reference. This thermostat is protected against normal minor static electric discharges, however to minimize the risk of damaging the unit in extremely dry weather, touch a grounded metal object before touching your thermostat. On new installations, follow the guidelines listed below. Locate the thermostat on an inside wall, about 5 ft. Do not locate where air circulation is poor, such as in a corner or an alcove, or behind an open door.

Thermostat install help needed
Someone with more control knowledge might help you if you want it all on one thermostat and it will have to be the correct model for doing that. The boiler is set at 74 and the gas is set at 70 or something. If the wiring and control is totaly escaping you you might want to invest in a furnace man for a few hours but you need to be able to tell him exactly what you want done which is simply switch the fan on high speed and off with a thermostat for the boiler heat and the gas furance and control gets left alone.
If you have a normal 4 wire thermostat hookup with R, W, G and W terminals then it would be hard to burn the transformer up because you are dealing with only one hot wire the Red (R) and there is not a common wire to short the thermostat out.

Seriously though, I thought about the shoddy control over our natural gas furnace we have with our current, circa s Honeywell round thermostat. Sometimes I have little revelations that pop into my head and recently one of these had to do with thermostats.

The old WeatherTron was also really ugly. Having two heat sources, the electric heat pump and the furnace, seemed to complicate the setup and install of the new Thermostat. Since it took a lot research and verifying to find where all the wires from the old unit hooked into the new one, I thought it may be helpful to post the wire translation that worked for me.
Since this is a DIY project, and I have absolutely no authority on this subject, here’s a disclaimer: Really, I have very little knowledge of these systems and following the information here could cause great harm to your system. I consider myself lucky that I didn’t blow up my entire heating and cooling system or burn the house down. I did do a lot of research and in the end, ended up deductively determining the new wiring based on all the information I could find.
To this day, I’m still not sure if it’s really correct, but so far, it seems to be working with my equipment. Also, this isn’t a trial and error situation. I have no idea what happens if the power is turned on with the incorrect wiring, but I assume everything would get destroyed. Also, be careful with the old WeatherTron thermostat since it contains a mercury switch. Mercury is highly toxic and you don’t ever want to be in contact with it.
