Crystal Beach Park Crystal Beach began as a Chautauqua show area, or religious campground in , much the same as Grimsby Park had several decades earlier. Crystal Beach was about 60 kilometres southeast of Grimsby, and for the campground at Crystal an auditorium, tents, and picnic grounds were provided. It proved popular enough to draw , per season. Entrepreneurs saw an opportunity to make money from this by having side show performances between sermons, and to offer refreshments.
This was not lost on a group of investors; they got together in and formed The Crystal Beach Company, as it was dubbed by one of the partners because of the sand quality there.

Guide to Real Photo Postcards This guide is meant to aid the collector in identifying and dating real photo postcards, and to act as a reminder that it is impossible to do so with great accuracy. Although real photo postcards were made in a variety of ways, they hold one identifiable feature in common. The tonalities of photos are completely continuous to the eye producing true greys, for they are created by the reaction of individual photosensitive molecules to light rather than the transfer of ink from a plate.
In printed images the grey areas are usually made up of black marks that are spaced to create the optical illusion of greys. Though most of us today are familiar with the concept of photo grain, this is mostly because we have experienced very large prints made from small 35mm negatives. But even here the effect is more of a softening of detail than a observable texture.
Early real photo postcards are small by their very nature and since most were contact printed, not enlarged, there is no visible texture. Collotypes, which provide the finest detail of all printing methods are sometimes confused with real photo postcards. But even collotypes will exhibit a discernible grain when magnified.
And of course any image that contain a regularly patterned series of dots is not a photograph at all but a ink printed image. Some halftone cards were printed on high gloss paper to resemble a photograph but their screen patterns will give them away if one is vigilant.

Sunday, 26 February How much is an old photo worth, and how long IS a piece of string?? These two questions go hand in hand although the latter seems to be an easier one to answer. I buy my photos the old fashioned way, by door knocking established areas and simply asking to purchase old albums and odd black and white photos. Now I can continue down the list, but you can tell we are talking about art, not so much the photo.
As for the artsy stuff, I have to agree, but as far as images of famous historical people, or images of historical importance, the odds are higher than you think. Ebay has been the go to hub of collectors for years now. Prints became very popular in Europe from the middle of the fifteenth century, and because of their compact nature, were very suitable for erotic depictions that did not need to be permanently on display. Nudity and the revival of classical subjects were associated from very early on in history of the print, and many prints of subjects from mythological subjects were clearly in part an excuse for erotic material; the engravings of Giovanni Battista Palumba in particular.
An earthier eroticism is seen in a printing plate of for an Allegory of Copulation where a young couple are having sex, with the woman’s legs high in the air, at one end of a bench, while at the other end a huge penis, with legs and wings and a bell tied around the bottom of the glans, is climbing onto the bench.
Although the plate has been used until worn out, then re-engraved and heavily used again, none of the contemporary impressions printed, which probably ran into the hundreds, have survived. In particular Leda and the Swan , where the god appeared as a swan and seduced the woman, was depicted very explicitly; it seems that this—rather strangely—was considered more acceptable because he appeared as a bird. Michelangelo’s Leda was a fairly large painting showing sex in progress, and one of the hundreds of illustrations to the book the Hypnerotomachia Poliphili of shows Leda and the Swan having sex on top of a triumphal car watched by a crowd.
Raimondi was subsequently imprisoned by the Pope Clement VII and all copies of the illustrations were destroyed. Raimondi based the engravings on a series of erotic paintings that Giulio Romano was doing as a commission for the Palazzo del Te in Mantua. Though the two depictions were very similar, only Raimondi was prosecuted because his engravings were capable of being seen by the public. Romano did not know of the engravings until Pietro Aretino came to see the original paintings while Romano was still working on them.
Aretino then composed sixteen explicit sonnets “both in your cunt and your behind, my prick will make me happy, and you happy and blissful” to go with the paintings and secured Raimondi’s release from prison.

Chestnut Ridge Park contains numerous trails, but here we are concentrating on the main trail that leads directly to Eternal Flame Falls. From the parking area and the park trail map, head into the woods this part of the trail is an old road and soon you will come across a kiosk containing a description of the trail and falls.
Near this kiosk is a downed and rotting redwood tree, a species unusual for this region. This marks the trail-head to Eternal Flame Falls, follow the blue rectangular wooden blocks nailed to the trees. About a tenth of a mile in, the trail will dip down and you will have to cross Shale Creek this is upstream from the falls.
At this point, you could creek walk downstream to see two small cascades and reach the top of Eternal Flame Falls. To get to the base of the falls, cross the creek and continue up the dirt trail. Soon you will pass a hemlock grove on your right and be able to hear the falls to the left if it is flowing. Continue along the trail as it begins to dip down into the ravine.

In the Post Office changed its rules and allowed: The message was to be written on the left-hand side of the back and the address on the right-hand side of the back. Great Britain was the first country to allow this practice. From around September onwards, postcard manufacturers began to issue cards with a line drawn down the middle of the back to show where the message and address should be written.
These cards soon replaced the earlier ones with ‘undivided backs’. Both are views of Edinburgh, measuring 7. Both were posted in Edinburgh on 22 April with a 1d stamp on each.
